The
Miami-Dade County Republican Executive Committee (MDREC) is the
governing body of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County. For
purposes of the Republican Executive Committee, the
county is divided into 40 districts with two Republican Executive
Committeemen and two Committeewomen for each district. The idea behind a Republican
Executive Committee member is that a person living within a district
knows his/her neighbors, the issues that affect their community and is
generally familiar with the area. In essence, the committee member
becomes the link between the county party and the voters in that
district. The goal of a committee member is to help grow and develop
the Republican Party by effectively
mobilizing Republican voters in that district, getting out the vote,
disseminating the Republican message, helping to implement strategy in
their community, making
sure likeminded neighbors and friends are registered, and in turn, being
that
community's voice, eyes and ears in the Republican Executive Committee.
The committee meets at least 6
times per year, on a monthly basis. The meetings follow Republican
Party of Florida bylaws and adhere to Robert's Rules of Parliamentary
Procedure. During the meetings, the committee votes on various
matters, adopts resolutions and recommendations, and during election
season becomes the clearinghouse for information on issues and
candidates, mobilization, organization, strategy implementation,
outreach and other such matters of interest to active Republicans.
Every two years, the committee
chooses its officers (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Recording
Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer) from among its
membership body. The chairman presides over general and executive
board meetings, is the ceremonial and executive head of the local county
party and represents Miami-Dade County at the State Republican Executive Committee along with
the State Committeeman and State Committeewoman, who are both elected by
Republican voters at-large, countywide.
Every four years the committee expires and a new one
is sworn in after being elected by the Republican voters of the county
by district.
Any Republican duly registered in Miami-Dade County may run for the MDREC in
his district every four years, and is chosen by the
Republican voters of his district. Should there be a committee vacancy in
a district between elections, a Republican duly registered and living in
that district may file to run for that vacancy and will be voted on by
the existing committee members during a general meeting.
